Water Activated Tape

Water activated tape, also referred to as gummed paper tape, is fast becoming the most popular form of carton sealing.  Environmentally friendly and creating a superior bond to conventional non-recyclable plastic tapes, it is a must have in the packaging communities’ race to a circular economy. Both the reinforced and plain paper tape are 100% sustainable and recyclable.

A recent case study from a leading furniture retailer revealed that by switching to our water activated tape they saved 240% on amount of product used per year compared to standard plastic tapes, it was also 55% faster to apply and had a 20% cost saving per year over standard adhesive vinyl tapes.

Our range of Pacplan Airwave air pillow systems and films give a high quality and reliable air cushion which offer a sustainable alternative to classic void fill products.

A recent study found that 1 roll of our Pacplan Nano film is the equivalent to 6x 15m³ bags of loose fill. This means that 1 pallet - or 210 rolls- is the equivalent to 1,260 x 15m³ bags of loose fill. Taking this further, this equates to 5 fully loaded artic lorries required to transport the equivalent loose fill compared to just 1 pallet of the Pacplan Nano Film!

Paper Mailers

Paper mailing bags are the eco-friendly alternative to plastic mailing bags.

Made from 100% recyclable paper and adhesives paper mailers are an ideal addition for the e-commerce industry. We also offer paper padded mailers, made from mixed recycled and virgin kraft paper, giving optimal protection to your products.

Kraft paper is renowned for its superior strength due to its reduced lignin content and high sulphur ratio. The chemical process in creating the pulp does not require extensive bleaching like other paper, which decreases the papers strength and increases manufacturing costs.

Void Fill

Void fill is an invaluable commodity in the packaging sector. Whilst we should always endeavour to use the correct size box void fill can act as an added barrier to keep products safe in transit.

Traditional forms of void fill include polystyrene foam peanuts and plastic bubble wrap. However, both of these products are incredibly hard to recycle and will end up in landfill taking centuries to degrade.

At Southgate we offer a range of sustainable void fill alternatives including shredders and fully recyclable Kraft paper. By utilising a cardboard shredder, you will have the capacity to re-use your cardboard waste as void fill, not only eradicating the expense of purchasing void fill materials, but additionally the expense of waste disposal.

Paper Protection

When it comes to packaging there is often an emphasis on the quality of boxing and the choice of void fill to protect the inner packaging. However, the importance of ensuring the outer packaging is not damaged is often overlooked.

Kraftek edge boards are made of resilient Kraft-wrapped grey board and are used to fully protect all horizontal and vertical load edges. They are also manufactured in a moisture-resistant grade which is even more suited to storage outside or in humid environment

Furthermore, our corrugated corner protectors are six-ply board and provide excellent impact-resistance for palletised goods, machinery, furniture and white goods.
